Regret at the present use of thc wireless which fostered the illega! trade of bookmaking by broadcasting details, was expressed in a resolution passed unanimously by 250 delegates of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. The Assembly wished to call national attention to what it called "The threat to social, economic ancj moral wellbeing occasioned by the alarming growth of the gambling habifc." A resolution expressed regret at "the new prominence given to horses by the press as directly contributing to the growth of betting" and hoped that the Gaming Commission would grapple adequately with the very complex and urgent issues.
