GENERAL DEBILITY I j • (By tlie Department of Health.) j- There are a lot of people who just nianage their daily lifo, and have no 1 feeling of iltness. They may see their i doctor who may diagnose. general debility. This linding will not be justilied unless certain things have been searched for and eliminated. For example, the blood exaiuined for anaemia; , the chest searched by X-rays for tuber- ! culosis or otlier trouble; the lieart tested and blood pressure taken; the kidI neys tested; and cancerous growths I searched for. All these things — . anaemia, tuberculosis, cancers, lieart, 1 Tdood vessel' or kidney diseases'T'an eause geileral debility. So can smaller iroubles, varicose veins, ])iles, chronk* j skin troubles and so forth, eontribute ; to debility. Hence tlie iirst tliing is a j phvsical overliaul of very thorough i kind, before the general debility label is accepted. The next step in linding j the causation of a general debility is i to see whether the nienlal health is sound. Any anxietv state, over-emo tional or hysterieal state, or depresj sions or obsessions, can interfere with i health and cause debility. A frank j discussion with an interested doctor, or I with a psychological cxpert in more j mat'ked cases, mav bring relief. There I is nothing like menlal strain to tire the i body out and eause debility. Tltere is still another lot of eauses of debility. Tliese have to do with I everydav routine. Maybe it is a matj ter of food — poor, unbalanced diets | that promote anaemia and other | troubles. Or a poor personal hygiene j routine — no daily bath, closed windows ; day and night, insuffieient exercise and j recre-ation, short sleep. Or trouble in j the 'home between husband and wifepor j ai- .WQr.Ji. with felkiw • werk-pe'4ple— Ui | thehe1 sorts -of tliyigs kiah. b.e '-debilitat-' •: Tlien there are those few who have nothing organically or menlally wrong, but liave ahvays been eonstitutionaJiy J i'mil. And last, but not Jeasl, there i is mother lookipg after a lnisy liouse- ; hold, who gets run dovvn and debili- , tated, and needs a spell and a good j holiday awav from tlie daily cares. J So if a bottle of tonic is rccommendj ed for a diagnosis of debility, do not j rely on tliat, unless all these things I have lirst been thought of and eliminj al'ed by proper treatment.
