SUCCESSFUL SEASON CLOSES The Buckley Golf Club hsid its jfficial closing day in fine weather .ast Sunday. The links were _ in jxcellent order and there were visitors present from Levin and Mangaore, as well .as a full gatherng of Buckley members. In the ' morning a flag competiion was held for a trophy donated oy Mr. C. Stern. The winner was W. Stern, who carried the flag oeyond the 20th green. Play in the afternoon took the form of a Canadian foursome, and the winners >vere Mrs. H.. Pope and Mr. T. Ooutie, of Levin. At the completion of play the vice-president of the Buckley Club (Mr. R. S. Downes) welcomed the visitors frojn the other clubs and , axpressed the hope ' that they had ^pent an enjoyable day on the flnks. Mr. Downes extended thanks to all those who had worked so hard to make the closing day the mccess which it was. He expressed thanks to all those who had over :he season, done so much to make it so successful, the Stern Bros. for :he use of the links, Mr. E. T. Wilton for his loyal and untiring work - xs secretary, Mr. T. Boon for his ionation of the "top dogs" cu]i and iionours board, Mr. K. Thomson, .he ladies who had acted as hostesses during the tournaments, etc., I ind the greenkeeper, Mr. R. Hays, for his work and the interest he thad taken in doing his work. ! Mr. Downes went on to say that at the approach of the golf season ut was decided to take' the club out ]of recess after the war years, and 'at the eai'iypart' of 'the season the joommittee had some doubt as to I what the outcome would be, but due to the keeness of ex-members and I to many who were this year playing their first season of golf, the club went through the season with a good membership. The past season was highly successful, both from a social point* of view and anancially. During the season the :lub had played niatches with ■leighbouring clubs, and had trav3lle.d to Tui Glen, while represenja tiv.es of the club had played in ,he Taihape tournament. The vicepresident them went on to congratulate those who had won trophies during the year and to all :hose who had not been successful in winning, for their fine spirit of sportsmanship displayed over the season. In concluding his remarks, Mr. Downes wished those who were rather reluctantly putting away their golf i clubs .until ncxt season, ill the very best and every success in the various summer sports: . Stern; stablefora, P. Picard; stroke, W. Stern; foursome, J. Pursell and J. Mabey; eclectic, W. Stern; "top dogs," J. Mabey and W. Stern. Monthly medals, F. Picard, R. S. Downes, K. Thomson, C. Booker and W. Stern (2). Ladies: Mesdames T. Boon, Barber, D. Fitzgerald, H. Pope, Higgie, Rasmussen ahd E. T. Wilson. Saturday's Results On Samrday afternoon ideal weather conditions prevailed and here was a good attendance of members present for the playing of a combined stableford competition. The results of the cards handed in were as follows: — T. Boon and F. Picard 66, H. Stern and D. Higgie 33, W. Stern and J. Stern 63, V. Picard and C. Stern 64, H. Karena and R. Harding 55, J. Chambers and E. T. Wilson 54, J. Bell and R. S. Downes 54.
