MR. THORN AND SOCIALISM

"NON-SOCIALIST."

Sir, — Some time back a correspondent in your paper asked Mr. Thorn if he believed in socialism. but so far I have not seen any definite affirmative oi^ negative answer" by him. Of course Mr. Thorn believes in socialism. That is his party's policy, the State ownership of distribution, production and exchange. Are# not Mr. Boswell and 12 others sent'by the Labour Government to Russia, at our expense, to learn how Russian Communism works so that they can put it into praetice here if they get ba'ck into power at this election? Sinee we have no trade with Russia what otherwise are 12 people sent there for? Did not Mr. Nash visit Russia and come back full of enthusiasm for the Russian way of life? He said that Russia was the easiest country in the world to govern. The government owned everything and extermihated those opposed to it. This Government was at first a benevolent socialist one, and did a lot of good, as did Hitler and Mussolini, who started in bad times, gradually extending their power over the people and ending in cruel dictatorship. Given the chance, in my opinion, this Government will act similarly. It is no use saying it cannot happen here. Of course it will in time. if the people vote Labour in again they will do so with their eyes open, and it will serve them right for what thev get. Yours etc..
