LOCAL AND GENERAL
Sale of Work The women of the Church of England Ladies' Guild are being kept very busy with preparations for their forthcoming sale of work. Already they nave large quantities of new and used clothing, and cakes, sweets and produce are being promised. Given suitabie weather conditions, the committee expects a most successful funciion. New Equipment Installed The installation oi the most modern of motion picture projection equipment has recentU been completed at the local theatre. T be plant comprises the latest C.S.C. mercury vapour rectifiers and associate equipment, which have been unobtainable during the war years. The new plant will double •the screen light formerly used by the theatre, and will have the effect of bringing out photographical details of the film. These eireets will be more noticeable in technicolour pictures. Whereas in tlie past the theatre was using 15 amps on the arcs, the new equipment wih bring the screen light up to 30 amps. To Fosler Athlelics An endeavour is being made locally to reform the amateur athletic and cyciing club, which ceased to operatc somc years ago. It will be remembered that in the years past Shannon had one of the finest clubs on the coast, and its meetings were always well attended both by competilors ,.and spectators. Some of ihe best athletes in the district were proteges of the Shannon Club. Reminiscent of the old days is the tar sealed cycle track at the domain, and upon inspection recently it was found that with a few repairs the track could be made first class again. The town has many promising athletes and the reformation of the club would do much to b.ring out the local tal -.nt, which at the moment is passing unnoticed.' It is hoped to call a meeting of interested persons in the near future.
