N.Z. PUBLICITY SCORING

w % Reeeived Monday, 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 4. Australians in London are ioyally convinced New Zealand lias nothing to ofit'er whieh Australia cannot match and become indiguant when they see their aister Dominion consistently beating Australia to it, cables tlie Bydney Sun speciai correspondent in London. They realise New Zealand might not be able to supply immediately all products its attractive posters and advertisements promise but they are convinced that wlien trade flows normally again, New Zealand will liave built up a valuable , goodwill and .the British housewifc may iiave got into tlie liabit of asking for New Zealand products. The correspondent reeords that hundreds of Londoners paused outside New headquarters in Tlie Strand this morning to read multi-coloured posters which told tliein that New Zealand was at present supplying butter to Britain equivalent to four days' ration and eheese equivalent to three days' ration weekly. Australia House displayed a model of Sydney Ilarbour bridge and two sliips, aud pictures of Bondi beach but promsied no food. Ninety per cnet of the Dominion food advertisements on buses, screens and hoardings were messages from New Zelaand. The correspondent finds the Australian migrant publicity excellent but points out that trade goodwill might be inore important in the long run. When New Zealand publicity resumed operations at the end of iast year, tourist expenditure was cut out in favoui of commodity advertising. New Zealand concentrated on food because it was convinced that Britons were food conscious. Kealising the impossibility of resuming immediately the prewai volume of food trade, New Zealand experts considered it wortliwhile to spend £1000 yearly just to remind potential customers: "Your rations today. Your choice tomorrow. " Australians in London now believe that New Zealand resumed activities at the riglit time and that Australia eourts the chance of missiug the bus.
