MANAWATU SHOW THIS WEEK
OVER 2600 STOCK ENTRIES Some .idea of the exceedinglv large number of stock entries received for the coming A. and P. show in Palmerston North can be gained from figures given by the secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, Mr. R. McCay, on Friday. Altogether 2644 animals had been entered. This total comprised 1131 horses,: 844 .cattle, 452 sheep and 217 pigs. These figures, said Mr. McCay, represented very ■ heavy entries and showed a magnificent response from farmers all over the North Island. Champions fr/om every district' in the island would be judged at the show and the results of the judging should be most interesting. The large number of entries had also made the show a balanced one with all stock sections adequately represented instead of having a lot of entries in one section and very ' few in another, as had sometimes happened in the past. In addition to stock judging, there would also be a grand marching contest in which 26 girls' teams from different parts of tht North Island would be taking part. There would be the usual dispjay of agricultural machinery, Mr. McCay continued, . *but this year's promised to be a very fine one, with some of the most modern developments in this field , on show. A full programme/o£ night entertainments for the shOw pqMod had been organised. Op Friday night there would be a full • athletic programme and midget car racing on the cinder track, and on the Saturday night the girls',. marching championship and greyhound racing. '■. • ■
