SHOWING EFFECTS OF TEAR GAS.
Received Sundav, 7 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 2. A large number of Jewish iinmigrants disembarking from the troopships Ocean Vigour and Enipire ITeywood, showed the efl'ects of tear gas. Several were temporarilv blinded and liad to be led ashore, reports Jieuter's correspondent at Famagusta. The troopships disembarked 1729. A number of women spat and shouted abuse at the British troops but (piietened after being addressed by Jewish rppresentatives from the internment camp. Others weut ashore quietly. The iinmigrants told correspondents tliev were eleven days at sea when the San Dimitrio sight a British destrover which eame alougside and struch the San Dimitrio, holing Ihe vessel which began listing badly. Some women passengers lying in lmnks were injured bv splinters. A seeond British des troyer eaihe alougside and threw tear gas after which a boarding party eame from the first destroyer and overeame resistance after a struggle. The iinmigrants said that when the first destroyer was sighted tfiev sent tlie ship's captain below and assumed control.
