BUSY SCENE IN AUCKLAND'S PORT AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. Afore than 1000 bags of mail, almost all that renmining from the accumulation which was built up in Sydney during the lull in the Tasman sailings was brought to Auckland by the Matson liner -Monterey when she passerl through the port today. As a result the Hud-dart-Parkcr motor liner Wanganefla which will ai'iive licre from Sydney 011 Monday is carrying only a small quantity. With three passenger steamers arriving from Sydney iu six days Auckland is temporarily receiving the best Tasman serviee it has known since before the war. The Monterey making her first west to east Tasman crossing einc-e early in the war carried 902 passengers when she went through the port today 011 her voyage from Sydney to San Franeiseo. About one-third of 'hese were liancees, brides and children of American servicemen. About (50 travel lers landed liere and a similar iiumbett»embarked to lill their places in the full §hip. The liner is expected to be withdjrawn for reeqnversipn 011 .her urrivaP aj her destimitipn. ' - Making a special voyage under the control of the Australian Government the \\ anganella is carrying about 300 passengers, -90 of whom ■ will land at Auckland 011 Monday. She will sail for Suva, Honolulu, Yictoria and Yancouver 011 Tuesdav, the first British liner to make a postwar journey 011 the Bacilic route.
The Xellore also makes her return to uormal travel and trade. She will leave Sydney tomorrow with 50 passengers for Auckland wliere she will load stores and cargo for Kure and Ho»g Kong. Tlie steamer, which will coniplete her loading at Wellington and Lyttelton, is the second unit of the Fastern and' Australian Line to visit Xew'Zealand since the company opened postwar connectiou with Ihe Far East. The arrivals of these ships coincide with the serious port cougestiou, and although a berth is available for the Wanganella, the Xellore may have to land her passengers and 1110 ve to anc'horage.
