MR. PATRICK HEALY

The late Mr. Patrick Healy, whose death occurred recently, was born at Currens, Killarney, Ireland, and by his ov/n initiative and resource came to New Zealand some 61 years ago as a lad of 19. He was an expert with the shovel and was engaged in work in Karori and Makara for sbmef years. In 1900 he married Emma, fourth daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Sievers,. of 'Makara. The late Mr. Sievers arrived in New Zealand in 1848 and the old two-storey hornestead, built of pitsawn timber still stands. Qn Mr. Healy's marriage Mr. Sievers settled in Wellington and the former farmed the property, that on which the well-known South Makara golf course is located, and which was the scene of many a pleasant weekend gathering from the city in pre-war days, over the hill the rounded contours of whose many bends bear witness to ihe skill of Mr. Healy's work. In 1916 the property was sold and Mr. and Mrs. Healy came to Levin, first settling in Bruce Road and later moving to The Avenue. Mr, Healy disposed of his property in 1933, living in retirement until seven years ago when he moved to Otaki, where he resided until his death. Mrs. Healy predeceased hirii 15 years ago.
