FATAL FALL FROM PONY
ACCIDENT ON LEVIN FAI^M When the pony lie was riding took fright and bolted on Saturday afternoon, its rider was thrown on to a pile of stones and received in-. juries from which he died at his ,| home early this mornihg. He-was: Riehard Alexander McKeagg, a ' married man aged 54, reSiding at Bartholomew Road, Levin; , The accident occurred on the > property of a friend, Mr. H. L. Mar- . shall, of Tararua Road. At the inquest, which was opened today before the district Coroner (Mr. J. S. Moir), Mr. Marshall said he was operating a tractor in a nearbv field, when he saw McKeagg .approaching on the pony, which he was in the habit of ridina. McKeagg lifted his arm to wave and this apnareptly frightened the pony, which bolted and stumbled - over a. pile of stones, throwing its rider to the ground. Mr. Marshall said that he ran to assist him, but found that he had risen and climbed over a fenceT A doctor was summoned and Mr. McKeagg was taken to his home. After hearing the evidence of Dr. L. J. Hunter, Mr. T. Wilson and Mr. H. L. Marshall, the coroner returned a verdict that the deceased died as the result of an embolism (clot of blood) due to in juries received when 'he fell from his pony on Saturday, October 26. Sergeant W. Grainger represented the police at the hearing. The .late Mr. McKeagg was a returned soldier from World War 1, and was a well known stud master. He came to Levin to retire about 18 months ago. His funeral will be held at Levin on Friday.
