As head of the ladies' committee, the Mayoress (Mrs. H. B. Burdekin) said today that the same \cheerful spirit and selfless service of the helpers was evidenced as. is present in. the band itself, where, since it has been reformed, there has been a wohderful spirit of co~ operation and time and effort cheerfully given in the interests of the town. It was as if the spirit oi the band had spread to the willing helpers, said Mrs. Burdekin. _ For over a week before the day itself, groups of ladies had gathered in aach others homes, transforming them into hives of industry, maxing garments and getting other saleable goods ready for the stall. Other members of the committee have been, active obtaining donations large and small, all helping to swell the funds. The committee specially wishes to thank the street collectors, whose job is never an easy one, although on this occasion there was a generous response by the public from , first thing in the morning till 8 p.m. when the day's work finished. The collectors were Mesdames W. Donnelly, G. Wyatt, L. M. Hair, E. Tyrrell, H. W. Walker, K. Lynch, C. Nicholl, A. Hastedt, McShane, B. Armstrong, H. G. Mackay, M. Kehoe, R. Meddings, C. Church, J. Rolston, Fletcher, B. Greenaway, Gunning, Fox, F. E. Ryder, Moxham, . W. Stannard and Satherley, Misses Bradley, Williams, Cockrell, Johnson, Harrison, Blenkhorn and M. Jenkins, and Messrs. C. Church, A. Savell, Havelock Williams, H. G. Mackay and H. L. Jenkins. Those helping with the stall were Mesdames H. L. Jenkins, E. Lacey, K. Bowater, O. C. Lagor, Weaver, Satherley, Hatch, Glover, G. Lester, M. Spencer, Hesp and Rcbinson and Misses Bowe'n, Harrison and E. Jenkins. Epecial donations for the stall were received from Mesdames Hesp, W. Donnelly and S. J. Thompson, Messrs. A. W. Allen, Ltd., Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, Messrs. G. Lester, Tomlinson, C. Larsen, E. Ward, W. Urquhart, H. B. Wise, C. Church, Havelock Williams, L. R. Spencer and the St. Mary's and Methodist Ladies' Guilds. While it is difficult to particularise where such wonderful help and assistance was given, special mention must be made of the outstanding help rendered by Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Frederikson, Mr. and Mrs. C. Church, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Jenkins, Mrs. and Miss Harrison, Mr. and Mrs. M. Spencer, Mesdames G. Lester, E. Lacey and Mr. M. Kehoe. A very fine gesture came from the Boys' Training Centre, whose staff and boys sent along a donation of £4. '
