ATHLETICS AND CYCLING

OTAKI CLUB HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Otaki A.A. and C. Club was held on Wednesday night, the president, Mr. Fred. Edwards, occupying the chair. Despite the inclement weather there was a large attendance, while apologies were received from several unable to be present. After confirmation of the minutes the balance-sheet was submitted by the secretary, Mr. Nilsson, and revealed a very satisfactory state of affairs, there being a good credit balance. It was pointed out that had the annual sports gathering been favoured with a fine day, the credit balance would have been considerably larsrer.

"General Matters Correspondence was read from the Otaki Borough Council, asking that two delegates be appointed from the club for the Memorial Hall Committee. The chairman pointed out that he and Mr. Nilsson had been acting. It was agreed that £10 be donated towards the erection of a building. It was pointed out that a building, should it be ereeted on or adjacent to the domain, be a decided adjunct to the club. It was decided to write to the Boys' Training Centre at Levin, thanking them for their past support and trusting that they would again favour the club with their presence. It was stated that 'the lads had taken a prominent part, doing credit to themselves and the club. It was decided to write to Mr. E. Cunningham, thanking him for the loan of a tarpaulin for wrestling, and to.wish him a complete recovery to health. It was agreed to donate £1 ls to Ihe Otaki Borough Council for the use of the domain, regret being expressed that the club was not in a position to give more. It was pointed out that ladies had assistecl with refreshments at the last sports meeting, doing good work. It was decided to make application to the centre for a sports gathering on Anniversary Day. It was considered that with favoufable weather the club would get hearty support from various places. The evening sports had been a great success, providing amusement- for both old and young. It was agreed to get an early start on the domain so that improvement in its condition could be effected without delay. It was left to Mr. Cook to ask the council to leave the femce in its present position. In connection with the road race from Palmerston North to Wellington on Saturday, it was decided to give assistance to riders by supply- ' ing milk at Tooby's corner.
