START OF ATHLETIC SEASON
LEVIN CLUB PLANS BIG GALA NIGHT % - / Preparations are well in hand for the gala opening of the Levin Combined Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's track season on November 5, when a collection will be taken up to aid the -expenses of the three scouts.who will be Levin's ambassadors at the jamboree in Paris next year. This enterprising club, which recently staged one of the most successful balls held in Levin for some time, is sponsoring a procespion which will leave the Levin School at 6.30 p.m. The parade will comprise the three local bands, St. John Ambulance Brigade (men's and women's divisions) , Fire Brigade, Boy Scouts, Cubs, Girl Guides and Brownies, and an appeal has gone forth to the secretaries of all summer sports clubs in Levin to have their representatives on parade, in the clothes they wear on the sports field. Any club secretary who has not been contacted is asked to inform the assistant secretary of the L.C.A.A, and C.C., whose, address is Box 1Q, Levin, of how many he will have on parade so as to allow positions to be allotted in the procession. The event will be unique, in that it will be the first time in Levin's history that three local bands have paraded. It will also mark the first appearance in public of the Levin girls maching teams under Mr, MacFarlane, who will be the marshall of the parade. These enterprising young ladies have .been practising hard for some time, and the public can rest assured that they will acquit themselves well. On arrival at the Levin Park Domain, the girls' marching tearn will give a display of marching, followed by atliletic and cycling events and a display by the Highland Pipe Band. The Levin Municipal and Boys' Bands will be heard in items at appropriate intervals. As November 5 is Guy Fawkes' night, the evening's entertainment will be brought to a close (provided permission can be obtained.) , with a bonfire and display of fire works on the vacant section in Queen Street. This part of the effort will ~be in charge of the Levin Volunteer Fire Brigade. The club is to be congratulated on arranging this evening's entertainment, and with the restoration of the lights at the domain, the public is assured of being able to see all that goes on.
