.WELLINGTON, Ocf.^25. Appfoval has been given for the issue of a ribbon or war medal to those soldiers who are entitled to it. The Army Department announced today that this medal will be granted to ' all person? who served on a full time basis in the a'rmed forces for 28 days oi* more during the period Septeniber 3, 1939, and September 2, 1945. Both operational and non-operational service will qualify, whether this was in NevLZealand or elsewhere. The war medal wiU be o'ranted in addition to any campaign stars and defence medal, if carried, and the ribbon will be worn immediately after the ribbon of those campaign stars and defence medal. On it will be worn the "Mention in Despatches" emblem granted for service in the 1939-45 war. Arrangements are being made for serving personnel to receive an initial free issue of ribbon through their units, but discharged personnel, whether they served overseas or in New Zealand, are re^ quired to make application at Base Records, •
