Eight large cartons containing nearly 800 garments were packed and forwarded for shipment to England. Rotary Has Farmers' Day The Levin Rotary Club's luncheon this week took the form of a farmer's day. Each member had brought a farmer friend as a guest, and over fifty sat down to lunch. The visitors were warmly welcomed by the club's president Rotarian E. R. Winkler. The chief topic of interest was a talk on the ryegrass family by Mr. E. Bruce Levy, of the Department of Agriculture. He was- listened to attentively throughout and at the conclusion answered a number of questions on the problems which farmers had enGountered, for which he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The function was very much enjoyed by -both the Rotarians and -their guests. Health Stamps There was a keen demand for the 1946 health stamps, which were on sale at the Levin Post Office this morning. The first day covers, which have been available all this week, have also been keenly. sought by local philatelists, and this morning all supplies had been sold out. The stamps, which are double the norma! size, are of l£d and 3d denominations. They are alike in design, the only differenee being that the predominant colour nf the l£d stamp is green and the 3d stamp brown. They portray a New Zealand soldier assisting a child over a stile and into the sunshine beyond, signifying, as the . Governor General yesterday so ably described it, the desire to assist those born during the war years to forget the anxiety of that period, and equip them spiritually, mentally and physically to become good citizens. An appeal is made to the public to assist the health camps by purchasing these stamps. For every 3d stamp sold ld goes to this cause and Jd in the case of the l£d stamps.
