Received Wednesday, 8.30 p.m. CANEDRRA, Oct. 23. ' , Questioned this afternoon about the Melboume report that wage pegging coiicessioiis were contemplated by the •Government, Afr. Chifley did not discount tlie possibility but jiointed out that Cabinet had not met since the electious. After recent discussions with a deputation from tlie Australasian Council of Trade Unions, lie announced that Cabinet would consider some relaxation of the wage pegging legislation. Yietoria Btate JVLinisters have expressed belief that there will be an early aiinoiuicement by the Comrfionwealth Government agreeing to modilications wliich will allovv employers to grant wage rises of at least ten per cent. The latest demand in an Australia-wide move for higher pay, comes fi'oin the tSheet. Aletal Workers and Stovemakers Union wliich has given the employers a mouth to reply to their demands for a £1 weekly rise on the award minimuiu. The union has branclies in all states.
