He was beiiig cpiestiobed aboiit tlie sitspected uulawi'ui possessioii of goods when lie received a teleplione message asking him to crank his wifc's ear in a nearby street. He was taken to the sceiie oi' the hreakdOwn in a patrol car. The. man got the car going and i'etni'ned to the patrol car after which the driver heai'd shots and saw the man racc away pursued by a detective. As they reached the middle of the road the man turned and fired three shots. The detective fcll. struck by all three. The man and woman then jumped into the car and made off: Later today the pnlice arrested a man and woman who had with them a young baby. '
