WONDER MACHINE FOR COAL MINES

Phenomenal coal cutting and loading macliines which Mr. Shinwell tolcl the Commons "kept him awake all night thinking of their wonders," may revolutionise and save the British coal industry. They are the Meco-Moore liiachines of which thirty are operating in Britain today and fifty more are on order. It is stated that 14 men operating oue machine can take out 300 tons of coal per shift which is tne output of 36 men working without it. The miners flnd their work easier and their safety greater and they can make up to £3 per shift. The machine is 16 feet long, weighs 10 tons and costs £5000. It cuts the coal seam and puts the hroken coal on the top of a conveyor. The Bolsover colliery in Derbyshire produced 1,000,000 tons with it with only one reportahle accident.
