It is generally felt that the low lake level" reached last summer and its consequent eflect on the rivers has had an extremely deleterious eflect on the feeding grounds, and that a considerable amouiit of trout food has been destroyed. It is probablc that two years will elapse before the feeding grounds are completely restored, and it would appear that the numbers of large fish will be limited. In anticipation bf a busy season, the eight launches plying for hire are being overhauled and repainted. Yaclitmen's Saffety The value of safety measures enforced by boating clubs and associations was amply demonstrated on Sunday, when so many yachts capsized in the sudden southerly squall. Practically all the crews were wearing kapok life jackets, which ensured that the wearer, even though unconscious would still remain upright in thc water. Also, the Takapuna, Idle Along and Tauranga class boate were fitted with watertight bulkheads which kept the boats afloat and even enabled them to be righted and towed home, as occurred in some cases on Sunday. II Crews did not lqave such floatiiig craft in an attempt to swirri ashore they had little danger of drowning ,, said the yaclitsman.
