MANGAORE GOLF

SUCCESSFUL CLOSING The Mangaore Golf Club held its closing on Sunday, and there was a good attendance . of members and visitors on the links. The weather was fine for most of the afternoon, marred only by a heavy shower m the latter part of the day. The president of the club, Mr. Elvines, stated that he was pleased to see such a ■ large gathering, and hoped that those present had enjoyed a good afternoon of golf for their final day. Mr. Elvines stated that the season had been a good one both from the social and financial angle, and many enjoyable days had been spent by members. Thanks were due to all members for their efforts in the smooth running of the season's golf, special mention being made of the secretary, Mr. Dick Simes, the captain of the men's club, Mr. J. Baker, and the captain of the ladies' club, Mrs. Baker, for the sterling services they had given in the season just completed. The president then said that it was his pleasant duty to present the trophies to those who had been successful during the season. The trophy winners were: — Men's senior championship, Mr. D. Higgie. Ladies' senior championship, Mrs. Lester. Men's section: — Bogey: A. Simes; stableford, D. Simes; eclectic, J. Baker; medal competition, D. Simes. Ladies' section: — Stableford, Mrs. Boon; bogey, Mrs. Boon; eclectic,- Mrs. Boon. The Elvines trophy was won by Mrs. Lester and the Baker trophy for the most improved player went to Miss Simes. In the men's section the Elvines trophy was won by Mr. D. Higgie and the Baker trophy for the most improved player by A. Simes. At the completion of the presentation of trophies, Mr. R. S. Downes, on behalf of the Buckley Club, thanked the Mangaore Club for the invitation to be present, and also congratulated the club on its successful serson and the trophy winners on their success. A mixed fourball competition i played during the afternoon was j won by Mr. D. Higgie and Mrs. I Baker.
