GERMAN PROPERTY IN SPAIN

It is offieiaily announced that an agreement has 'been reached with Britain, France and the United States on the disposition of German public properties in Spain. According to the Alinister of Education, Mr. D. J. Martin, the agreement nxeans that Eranco recognises that the Allied Control Couiicil in Germauy has assumed the prerogatives of the German Government far property. The Control Council's status in Spain was previously' unclarified. Tliere would be geueral negotiatrons on the disposition of German property wliich' was vaiued at £25,000,000. Spanish claims against the German Governmen't would be considered. The Four Power agreement on Ger.nan assets in Spain does not niean Spain has agreed on the disposition of the assets, says Reuter's Madrid correspondent. The agreement paves the way for negotiations by acceding to the Frenoh request to be included, and also recognising the Allied Control Councii in Gennany as the Governmept of Germany for the purposes of deciding the legal ownership of German property. Spain considers Russia is not entitled to join in the negotiations.-
