Some officials fear the V \ stoppage may presage a N general strike in Victoria. Mr. J. J. Brown, the raihvaymen's secretary, said the men would continue to fight until they obtained better conditions. Tramway men, at a mass meeting, decided to stop work because they considered they had received an unsatisfactory reply from the Tramways Board to their demapd'fot increased wages and impfoved working conditions. The Railways Union executive met soon afterwards and also issued instructions for the stoppage of all rail services. Efforts are being made to extend the stoppage to other transport unions, including buses and taxis.
