STOCKS OF CHRISTMAS GOODS
-s. WELLIN UTON, Oct. 17. Stoeks of goods for Clii'istmas gifts are expected to be in good supplv this year, aeeording to leading retaiiers. There vvill be little imported ware but New Zealand factories are expected to be able to meet the demaud. Supplies of children 7s toys which have been very short, liavc improved considerably and there will be a large range of goods for children this year including many tnechanicai toys. The quality of these toys is stated to be much improved. For girls, sleeping dolls are back on the market and there will also be a large range of children ;s books. For women there are improved supplies of novelty jewellery and these are expected to be popular. During the last few months a nuxnber of f&ney powder compacts imported from Australia, have been on sale. Supplies of china goods are expected to be better this year than in previous years. The production of crockery and china in England has risen by 20 per cent of the wartime figure. Already there is a large range of fancy ware showing in many shops and more stocks are expected by the end of November. Crystal and glassware from England is also expected to be a feature of Christmas displays this year.
