Band's Street Day

A combined shop and street day will be conducted by the Levin Municipal Band on Friday, October 25, with a. view to .raising sufficient •funds to avoid the necessity of collection boxes during public appearances by the band. An energetic committee is making arrangements for the effort and already is receiving offers of goods to stock the stall. In addition donations ihave been received from Messrs. E. Ward, C. Larsen, C. R. Church, A. W. Allen, Ltd., and Mesdames Harrison and Scotson. It is hoped that the appeal will receive generous support from the public. Shell and Oil "Neither the Shell Co. of New Zealand nor any other company in the Shell groun owns any shares in the Anglo-Iranian „Oil Co.," says a statement issued by the general manager of the Shell Co, (Mr. N. H. Smith) correcting a statement made in Parliament during the "debate on the establishment of the petrol compan^ in New Zealand. The statement continues "The Shell Co. was not consnlted regarding the formation of the New Zealand company. The company had- no preknowledge of the proposal, arid will have no part in it." At the request of numerous satis- : fied patrons, the Levin branch of' the Labour Party is holding another dance on Wednesday, October 23. in the Regent Hall. Roy Lester's orchestra will provide the music' and every effort is being made to' ensure an evening as enjoyable as the last*.
