STOLEN SAFE RECOVERED
AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. Eollowing an anonymous teleplione message, an office safe stolen by burglars froin the factory of John Grant & Co., flock manufacturers, in Nelson Street, Gity, was found on an area of reclaiincd ground at tlie lower end of tlie street tliis afternoon. The safe liad been cut open and a easli box contaiuing the sum of about £20 liad been reinoved. When the factory foreman arrived at work this morning he found intruders had forced open the lock on tlie wicket gate in the cart dock. The safe, which weighed about 3cwt., and a small radio set valued at £20, was missing from tlie manager's office. At 10.45 a.m. an anonymous telephone message was received at a newspaper office to tlie eft'ect that tlie safe which had been liroken open would be found in a Tubbish tip opposite tlie eity mar-k-ets. An inspection of the tip was made immediately but the safe was not found. When the manager of .Tohn Grant & Oo. visited the Nelson street reclamation in tlie afternoon, he found the safe which had apparently been eovered by the tide after having been cut open with a pair of heavy shears. Papers and wages eards were scattered about the ground.
