BOWLING GREEN RESEARCH
COURSE OF LECTURES The Green Research Committee of Palmerston North has received a letter from Mr. Andrew Fletcher, Wellington, offering to donate the sum of £100 towards the expenses of a green keeper or green superintendent, or more than one if it can be arranged, from each of the centres affiliated to the New Zealand Bowling Association, attending a course of lectures and demonstralions covering three or four days at Palmerston North. The Green Research Committee is prepared to co-operate with the suggestion, and if the various centres are willing to arrange for their representative to visit Palmerston North, course of lectures and demonstrations would be arranged on the same lines as has been done for the various golf clubs over a period of years. Many of the councillors at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association in June were privileged to make a visit to the green research area, and ■ came away full of enthusiasm for the valuable information imparted, and for the demonstrations witnessed during the visit. The New Zealand Council is desirous of taking advantage of the generous offer of Mr. Fletcher, but as it will be readily understood, if the same is availed of, it would be necessary for each centre to contribute towards the expenses of its representative. As this matter will be discussed at the half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand council in February next, it is desirable that centres give the scheme consideration before November 11. It is recommended that the representatives, if selected, should be capable and willing to impart the knowledge received ,to the various green keepers and green supervisors within centres. Annual Tournament The New Zealand Bowling Association's annual tournament will be hcld in Wellington from February 4 next and will extend over approximately two weeks. The oxecutivc is anxious that it should be a very successful one, and with this end in view a meeting of presidents, delegates and secretaries of clubs under the jurisdiction of centres is to be convened so that matters in connection with the tournament can be discussed. Latlies' Opening Day The Levin Ladies' Bowling Club will opcn its green on Saturday next at 2 p.m. Arrangements are well in hand and members are looking forward to a pleasant day. Thc club was rcpresented at thc Ccntral Club's opening on Saturday last by Mesdames Wilkinson, Forster, Hartstonge and Gibson.
