Pci'SORfll The death occurred suddenly at Otaki on Sunday of Martha, wife of the late Mr. R. E. Herron and mother of Roderick Campbell, Ollie Glover and Marjorie Simpson. Mr. Ernie Cunningham, who has been in hospital both at Wellington and Levin, has returned to his home at Otaki, considerably benefited by the treatment received. Mr. Frank Shaw hopes to be able to return from the Wellington Hospital in a fortnight's time. Auction Sale On Wednesday next Messrs. Harold Taylor and J. L. Bennett, Ltd., will conduct an auction sale of high class goods at their Railway Mart. A splendid assortment of, lines will be offered and readers are invited to peruse the full list appearing in the advertising columns of this issue. — P.B.A. Fragility of Life "All of us who have tended young life, let it be vegetable, or human, know by experience the fragility and preciousness of that life," said the Rev. Father Reader, S.M., at Mass in St. Mary's Church, Otaki, on Sunday. He proceeded: "What we have seen in the physical sphere should most forcefully teach us the needs .of the invisible, spiritual life begun in us by the sacrament of baptism. That life is called the life of grace, and we should esteem it and preserve it as a God-given gift entitling us to a heavenly destiny. All grave sin, and eveh imperfections, we must avoid, for they kill or weaken this supernatural life of the soul. It develops and flourishes on the practice of all the virtues, especially of charity, and on the reception of the other sacraments. No material success can replace this life. At the hour of death, we shall be judged upon our merits, and the grace we have acquired through a good saeramental life, and not upon the money or the goods we have accumulated. The fundamental concern . of our existence here should be the perpetual retention, and the constant increase, of the life of grace. That means true succcss.""
