WALKED OUT OF PLANE CRASH ALIVE

HASTINGS, Oct. 13. A Tiger Moth plane with oue occupant, Peter Sherning, aged 23, who was on liis first solo flight, crashed into a belt of trees near the Hawke's Baj- and East Coast Aero Club 's aerodrome, early this afternoon. The plane was com'pletely wreclced but the pilot miraculously escaped unhurt. He had just taken off from the aerodrome and apparently had not gained suffieient li eight to clear the trees. The plane slieared off the tops of three lieavy pines but the pilot was able to walk ■ out of the wreckage uniqjured and unaided. Sherning had combat experienee .with the R.N.Z.A.F. in the Paeific.
