By Telegraph-
AUCKLAND, Uct. 1U. About 20,000 cases of Australian tinued fruits which are being held iu New Zealand by order of the Food and Rationing Controller, Mr. A. J. Costelloe, will be released for -Christmas Originally 50,000 cases were promised New Zealand by Australia for this yeai but lack of shipping is responsible foi the delay in obtaining the full quota. The 20,000 cases represented 480,001 tius, said Mr. CosteHoe.^ More woulc arrive before Christmas' but it wus doubtful if the total eonsigument woulc be imported by then. Even if + was il would nO't allow one tin per person an( therefore it would not be" possible tc ration them on the coupon pystem. Thev would probably be rationed at the dis crction of the retailer. . There was Ao eontrol of any New Zea :lAud tiuned goods. SOme liues weri "plentiful while others, particularb fruitj, were not.
