DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

-Press Association

By Telegraph—

DUNEDIN, Oct. 7. Satisfactory prices witliout anything in the nature of sensations were the order of the day when the system of disposal of wool by auetion was resumed today. This was the first open market for wool in Otago since Decembcr, 1939, after which the appraisal system came into operation. A full bench of about 60 buyers and the interest which they showed in the catalogue, justified gropers' expectations. The offering of 6511 bales was uiainly comprised of crutchings but there was a small representation of early shorn wool and it met keen competition. Although an occasional lot failcd to reach the reserve pfice set' by the Wool Disposal Gommission, the crutcdiings in particular sold mostly at prices substantially bettef than last year's appraisal values. The official report on the sale issued by the Dunedin Woolbrolters Association in eonjunction with the New Zealand Wool Buyers' Association, and Wool Disposal Cominission states that the sale "was held before a full r.epresentation of buyers from Bradford,. America and the Continent. The total

number of bales offered was 6541 comprising 5045 bales of greasy wool and the balance .of ,slipes and seoured' wools, the greater portion of which ! was from stock wools. The general j condition of the wool which was main-i ly crutchings, was of good style and' condition no doubt due to the favour-' able weather prevailing during the winter. The fleece wool offering was in keeping with the straggler wool ofl past seasons. Some early shorn wool was on offer and this opened up inj good condition and met with keen competition.
