Personal Mr. E. Cunnihgham, who is at present in hospital in Levin, is reported to be making' good progress. Among those present at the Otaki races on Saturday were the following: The Hon. R. Mawhete, M.L.C., Mr. G. P. Shepherd, Under-Secre-tary of the Native Department, Messrs. M. R. Jones and J. A. Slater, of the Parliamentary Secretarial Corp., Mr. Arnold Reedy (Ruatoria, East Coast) , Mr. T. M. Hetet (Te Kuiti) and Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Wiren (Wellington). Light Frost • A light frost was experienced in Otaki yesterday morning, while there was also a light fall of snow on the Tararuas. Old Time Dance An old time dance will be held at Te Horo on Friday next when good music, supper, etc., will be supplied. The management is working hard to make the affair successful. Free buses will run from Waikanae. Pension Payments Pensions this month will be paid at the Otaki Post Office as follows: Family 11th, old age 21st, widows', orphans' and invaiids' 22nd, war pensions 23rd and wai' veterans' pensions 31st. Scout Exhibition At the Scout exhibition to be held at the Railway Hall on October 19 there will be an illuminated tram-car, motor-boats, Eiffel tower,' hand-painted China, stamp collections and many other attractions. The show will be a fine one and should draw a large attendance. Visit to Church A number of Otaki State School children, under the able guidance of lady teachers, yesterday visited, the Maori Church when Miss Lochore, who is conversant with the history of the church, enlightened the young minds on matters connected with- this-historic building. New Building Progresses The first building of a block in Main Street for Messrs. McBeth and E. J. Cook is now in course of erection, and good progress is being made by the contractor. In due course, when 'material, etc., is available, the buildings will be erected as far as Mr. Newdick's cabinetmaking shop. A Fine Display Mr. Newdick, who has opened in business in Otaki as a cabinetmaker, is now - making one of the best displays the district has had, and in ' consequence good business has resulted. The shop in Main Street is up-to-date, while Mr. Newdick is willing to faithf ully 1 undertake all orders entrusted to him.
