Received Tuesday, 1.10 a.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 7. The homeward bound eonfusion was much greater than this morning \s. From 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. the thoroughfares leading from the eity were hopelesslv jammed with slowly moving streams of cars, vans, trucks, etc. Manv prjvate motorists who brought people into town in the morning arranged to take the same persons home in the evening when suitable meeting pla-ces and times could be arranged. Others who had hitehhiked citvwards" used tlie same means, for the homeward journey. Army trucks brought Vietoria barracks pei--sonnel td work and returned them homeward in tlie evening. Postal vans were used to transport Post Offiee employees with street pillar boxes as picking up places.
