GOOD WHEAT CROPS EASE FAMINE THREAT

Received Tuesday, 12.10 a.m: WASHINGTON, Oct. 7. The Department of Agriculture estimates the 1946 world wheat crop at 5,875,000,000 bushels compared with 5,150,000,000 in 1945. The increased production has eased the threat of famine this winter but the department emphasised that the supply will not he fully adeciuate for requirements. Jtceserve stocks nave sfirunk far below working levels as the result of the ahnormal demands last spring. The European crop for 1946 will be 1,360,000,000 bushels compared with 1,030,000,000 in 1945. Canada's crop will be 44 per cent. larger at 440,000,000 bushels. The Unitecl States harvest will be an all time record of 1,167,000,000 bushels.
