Jennifer Jones 'is the only film actress in history who won an Academy Award in her first picture. "The Song of Bernadette," one of the most. diffieult assigninents ever given an actress, took this young brunette from Tuisa, Oklahoma, and made her the talk of the entire .theatrical world. Since then she has appeared in "Love Letters" and "Since You Went Away." Jennifer travelled the cinematic road to fame slowly, but sure'ly. Every "step up from the age of 5, was taken after cairn deliberation. Without doubt, few careers are so carefully planned. It was an old family friend who urged her to follow the conventional college trainihg she persistently refused. She determined to become an actress, followed the old friend's advice, and avoided any atmosphere of daisy chains and fudge parties. The most eventful day of her career was the day she went to the theatre and saw "Claudia." She fell in love with the play, and knowing David O. Selznick had purchased the film rights, 'determined to see him. She never got the part, but Selznick recognised her ■ potentialities immediately. He took : the young actress in hand, changed her name from Phyllis Isley tc : Jennifer Jones, and another star was born.
