BULL AND HEIFER SALE

Prices Up On Last Year Keen interest was sliowii by buyers at tbe 24th annual Manawatu bull and heifer sale held at the Palmerston North. Showgrounds yesterday. Priees were high and not many animals in the ring were passed. The auctioneer, Mr. M. Walton, of Feilding, said that this was one of the best saies that had been held for several years, the prices being well in advanee on last year's. Although last winter was a bad season for stock-rearing, the animals oft'ered at the sale were very good specimens of their breed. The judging was done by Mr. Y. McD. Hitchings, of Otorohanga. The results were: — Yearling Bulls. Class 1: Champion, Messrs F. V. Bryant and Sons, Mangatainoka, Jer8ey Glen Notable; reserve, Mr. A. MeCaskie, Rangiwahia, Greystone Coronach. Class 2: Champion, Mr. C. Jamieson, Carterton, Matarawa High Nobility; reserve, Mr. C. Jamieson, Carterton, Matarawa Noble Gift. Class 3: Champion, Mr. J. O'Donnell, Hastings, Carhudufli Kiwi; reserve. Messrs H. J. Fourneau and Son, Hastings, Pakowhai Franchise Ace. Two-year-old Bulls. Champion, Messrs H. J. Fourneau and Son, Hastings, Pakowhai Valiant; .reserve, Mr. J. J. McErlean, Foxton, Moneyglass Designer. Yearling Heifers. Champion, Messrs H. J. Fourneau and Son, Hastings, Pakowhai Kewpie; reserve, Mr. T. Banford, Whakarongo, Abberley Yvette. The saies were held iinmediately after the judging had fmished. Of 77 bulls offered, 61 were sold at an average price of 36£gns. for the first section of 46 and 33gns. for the total. The highest bid was 155gns., the highest for many years, and was made by Mr. C. B. Anderson, of Bulls, for Mr. F. P. Adamson's Bandleigh Highlight. The next highest bids were of 80 and 72^gns. Of eight heifers olfered, all were sold at an average of 23Jgns., the highest prices in this class being 35gns. and 30gns. Details of the saies are as follow: — Aceount F. P.
