CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 2. The first auction sale of fine wools at Christchurch for seven years, was held today when 5344 bales of crutchings, oddments "and a small« quantity of fleeee were olfered. All except the most inferior types met an excellent deinand from the Continent and America at prices up to 27d for halfbred fleece. Little Bradford type of wool was offered and buyers were not active. Bidding was quiet but steady at values considerably in excess of appraisement levels. In addition to new wool, 26S0 bales of stoek slipe and scoured wool and 16,382 bales of stock wool from Invercargill, were olfered. Values for the limited quantities of fleece wools offered ranged as follow: — Halfbred: Super 24^d to 27d, good to super 21d to 24d, inferior 13|d to 17|d. Three-quarterbred: Good to super 20d i to 23:Id, average 17:ld to 19|d, inferior 12d to 17d. Merino fleece made to 214d and crossbred fleece to 20^d Halfbred pieees made to 23d and L three-quarter to 16d. Merino pieces made to 20|d. The official range of prices .for crutchings was as follows: — Halfbred crutchings: Extra super IGd to 17d, good to super 124d to 15d, average lld to I2jd, inferior 74d to lOd. Three-quarterbred crutchings: Good i to super 124d to 144d, average lld to ; 12Jd, inferior 6d to 9d. ; Clrossbred crutchings: Good 12d - to L 134d, average 9^d to lld, inferior 6d [ to 9d. Carpet crutchings 18.d, to 19|d.
