COMMERCIAL ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY MEETING HELD The monthly meeting of the Otaki Commercial Association was held last night, the president (Mr. W. McBeth) presiding. A matter that occupied considerable attention was the question of the Railway Hall, it being suggest?d that this building should be jecured. It wa's pointed out that i this building was lost to Otaki it ,vould mean a serious thing, sspecially to the young people of he district. A letter was received from the Borough Council suggestIng that the association appoint a ieputation to wait on the council at its meeting on October 9. It was agreed to meet the situation by appointing representatives from he association to meet the coun•il. This committee will meet at 7 Vclock on the evening of the coun:il meeting to formulate a scheme ,o be placed before the council meeting. One suggestion was that a poll of the ratepayers be asked for, while another was that the pwner, Mr. Webster, be interviewed and asked for an option over the hall. It was later ascertained that here was a likelihood of the buildng changing hands at a very early late, but failing this falling hrough the matter would receive further consideration. j A letter was received from the Wellington Beautifying Society, ' when the chairman stated that mees had been left to be called for, Uiat necessary instructions had Tcen given, but that when the carier called he found no trees awaiting him, some person in the meanimc cvidently taking by mistake a double lot of trees. It was agreed hat it was now too late for the planting of trees, but that the offer would be available for next season. It was decided to write to the Beautifying Society pointing out" that '.he trees would be appreciatecl next season. It was pointed out that a largc Amount of voluntary labour had been done at the camp site, and it was agreed to pay amounts due to outside labourers. Liberal help from Mr. Buxton was appreciated.
