MINISTER STATES EIGHT MAJOR POINTS

WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. The following eight major points of the Government 's future transport policy, were announced by the Minister of Transport, Hon. J. O'Brien, tonight: — (1) The construction of modern transport facilities best suited to meet the needs of national production, standards of life and defence. (2) The development of public road passenger services so that adequate cheap travel will be available to all for both essential and recreational purposes. (3) The provision of road freight services so that prompt cheap collection and delivery services for all classes of goods will be available throughout the country. (4) The public ownership and operall Uon of' the road transport services ifl?| cases where such is necessary and desirable in the public interest. 4 (5) The coordination of all forms of public transport. (6) The preservation to the individual of- the unrestricted right to own and operate his own means ot transport for private and domestic use. (7) A comprehensive and progressive road safety policy. (8) All inventions and discoveries ot" science in the field of transport shall be made available to attain an ever higher standard of life.
