BRICK WORKS AT KAMO DESTROYED

WHANGAREI, Sept. 28. A fire last night destroved the greater part of tlie Amalgamated Brick and Tile Oonipany's works at Kamo, the daniage running into several thousands of pounds. All maeliinery of a vital nature was burnt out and five motors and three elevators were badly damaged. Good work by the Whangarei Fire Brigade, whicli pumped water from a creek, saved the drying rooin where there is sufficient materiai in the course of drying to allow some workers to continue for three weeks, but 30 will be put out of employment until the works are reinstated, wliich will take some time. The works supplied firebrieks, . not obtainable elsewhere, to the Navy, the Portland cement works and the Raihvav Denartment.
