BOWLING CLUBS OPEN

NEW SEASON USHERED IN The Paraparaumu and Otaki Railway Clubs opened the season on Saturday, but only on the former green was play permissible, the Otaki club's green having been deluged by recent rain. However, the official opening was performed, when Mr. Ben Rolfe, president of the club, warmly welcomed the visitors, and trusted that finer weather would prevail in the future and that many enjoyable games would result. He expressed pleasure at seeing representatives from other clubs present, specially mentioning Waikanae, Raumati and Otaki, these clubs being well represented. It was hoped, stated Mr. Rolfe, that all clubs would have successful and enjoyable seasons, and that many games would result between the various clubs. A tribute was paid to the green superintendent and others who had done some fine work for the club. Their help was fully appreciated. He assured members of the Otaki Club that the Railway green would be open to them till their opening day arrived. (Applause). Afternoon tea was served and enjoyed. Two rinks from the Otaki Club — Pike (2), Temuera and Grey (s), and Merwood, Pullman, Bartosh and P. Simcox (s) — were present, with other representatives at the opening of the Paraparaumu Beach Club's green. The attendance, which included members of the Wellington Centre, was large and both greens had to be utilised. At an interval rain threatened, but "Old Sol" made his presence felt and good games eventuated. The president of the club, in a well-worded speech, expressed pleasure at seeing such a fine attendance and trusted all would have a successful day. Further, that all clubs would indulge in many pleasant games during the season. Complimentary reference was made to the fine work accomplished for the club by Mr. Wesley Knight and Mr. White Scott. Remarks were also made by the president of the centre, after which enjoyable games were indulged in. Afternoon tea was enjoyed. The Otaki Club's green will be officially opened on October 19. ■ " / " -
