STRONG QUAKE RECORDED

Received Monday, 10.15 a m NEW YORK, Sept. 29. The Fordham University seismograph recorded a strong earthquake, probably in the South-West Paciflc, last night at 10.21 p.m. New York standard time. It ds estirnated that the 'quake was 8,700 miles away. The vibrations continued for about three hours. The shake was recorded at the Dominion Observatory, Wellington, beginning at 3.9 p.m. It was oue of the largest recorded for some time and lasted three and a-half hours. The centre is believed to be about 2800 miles from Wellington. 'mere have been several slight shocks since.
