CLEARING MAIN TRUNK SLIPS

AUGivLAXD, ttept. 21. Work on the large slip which is bJoeking tlie main trunk line near Kopaki, was continued today and it was hoped traffic would be resumed late tonight. The goods train whieh was derailed three miles north of Kopaki early on Tuesday morning, was liack 011 the line by ten o'clock this morning and was taken to the siding at Puketutu. Rain continued to fall in the area iffected by the slips on Thursday niglit and this morning and during the day there were intermittent showers. Fusilier slips are likely if there is much more rain. One area where there have been no slips up to now is being closely watched. Hhips are being used to carry second and third class mails between Auckland and soutliern centres. The Government.steamer Afatai whieh left this evening for Wellington, carried. 160jJ bags of mail for Wellington province and the Routh Island. The coastaj motor vessel Margaret W., whieh will leave in the morning, will take mail for Gisborne and Hawke'§ Bay. Mail from Wellington and the South Island will arrive at Auckland late tomorrow morniug in the Uner Akaroa,
