CENTENARIAN DIES

WHANGAREI, Sept. 27." Northland 's oldest woman and probably one of the oldest in New Zealand, Mrs. Maria Wikaira, has died at the age of 118 years at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Barrett, Whirinaki, South Hokianga. For many years there have been conjectures as to her real age. She was believed to. have- been "about 14" when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, which would have made her ;120^ but it is geneally agreed to be more liltely that her age was between 113 and 116. A three-day tangi has just linished.
