OTAKI HORSE JOINS WINNING LIST
Another two-year-old joined the winning list on Saturday. This was the chestnut colt Sea Lad, who is raced by Mr. J. Fitzgerald, , Otaki. Sea Lad is by Tiderace from Precursor. Sea Lad is a well-grown youngster and was bred at Otaki by Mr. T. O'Rourke. He was entered for sale at the January auctions at Trentham, but was not offered. His dam had previously bred Bold Shot to Royal Shot, Miss Wheriko and The Tosser to Wheriko. Gold Lad to Inflation, Condescension to Amaranthus, and Surf Girl to Tiderace. Not many of the Tideraces have come to hand as early two-year-olds, but Sea Lad proved himself a ready-made galloper by- beginning well and leading all the way. Precursor was bred by Messrs. W. H.-Hume and J. B. Moodie, and is by Thespian (son of Absurd) from Ayah, an All Red mare who was dam of Inferno -and traced to the Lady Evelyn branch of the Pulchra family, whose descendants include Cruciform, Mermin, Royal Lancer, Lowenberg, Tara King, Loughrea, Agrion, Waikara, Orelio, and many other high-class gallopers.
