LEVIN CRICKET CLUB
PREP ARATION S FOR SEASON The annual meeting of the Levin Cricket .Club was held rsecen,tl.y in; the'Cen'tufy Hall, Mr. K. Hudson presiding.. Mr. W. H. .Walker presented the annual report which read as fol--lows : "We commenced the season rather short of play.ers, ahd in this connection we are indebted to Horowhenua College for helping us to make up shortages on several Saturdays. However, as the season progressed our club grew in s.trength till eventually we emerged Winners of the Hall Shield •ai'ter several closely-contested and enjoya;ble games, Otaki being the run-ners-up. We were unfortunate in (osing our captain, Mr. H. Fletcher, towards the end of the season through his- being transferred to Auckland. "It is with deep regret that I have to report the death during the year of Mr. P. W. Goldsmith, who was for so many years patron of our club. He always took a keen interest in our affairs, and reference to the minute book shows that he of ten took the chair at our annual meetings. "A number of representative games were played during the season and most of Our members gained representative honours. The grou.nds were maintained in excellent order and our thanks are due to the Levin Borough Council for carrying out this work. The finances of the club show a credit balance on the year's working, but owing to the expense of providing new gear, consideration will need to be given to a means of improving our revenue. In conclusion I wish the club a pleasant ahd successful season." The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows: — Patron: Mr. D. S. MacKenzie; president: Mr. E. J. Field; vice-presidents : Messrs. L. W. Fletcher, J. Galloway, J. C. Moodie, C. Larsen, W. Meddings, H. Baumber, G. Sherwood and H. Hudson; secre— tary: Mr. R. Meddings; assistant: Mr. W. H. Walker; club captain: Mr. R. Juno; management committee: Captain, vice-captain and Mr. R. Meddings; delegates to the association: Messrs. K. Hudson and W. Galloway; selection committee: Captain and vice-captain, with a recommendation from the meeting that players attending practices be given special consideration. - It was left in the hands of Messrs. Walker, Hudson and Field to make suitable arrangements for ihe purchase of new gear. It was resolved that the subscripfcion for the season be 30s for seniors and 10s for juniors (18 years and under) . The delegates were instructed when attending the association meeting to advocate the reduction, of the affiliation fee to £1 ls in ,view of the fact that club materi.als were largely used in representative matches. • It was decided that -members assemble for the first club practice on Tuesday, October 1, at 5 p.m.
