TRAMPERS GATHER
MEETING OF LEVIN CLUB Some thirty members attended ■the monthly meeting of the Levin•Waiopehu Tramping Club last evening. Mr. A. -Coles was appointed chairman -in the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr. N. M. Thomson) , from whom an apolcgy was received. Apologies were also received from Misses J. Allen and S. McCarthy and Messrs. W. IJ. •Ransom and T. A. Kerslake. Three new members -were nominated and .eleoted, which .giv.es the club a -total membership of 76, the highest in its history. A reply was received from the -Minister of Inter-nal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) to the club's letter enquiring if it wauld be possible to have the materials for the new hut on Waiopehu dropped from ihe air near the site. The Minister intimated that he was at .present going jnto the feasibili.ty of dropping hut building material from the air, and he would write again when fur.ther iiiformation on the subj.ect was available. -The Minister added that he would be pleased to assist the club in developing the track and re-erecting th> hut, and .enclosed a form of applicatiorl for a grant. It was pointed out to the meeting .that the Minister's aft'er was a spontaneous one. Appreciation of it was expressed and it was decided to make application for a grant. The hut sub-committee was requested to meet as soon as possible -aird finalise the plan of the hut and the materials which should be used. It was reported that the Mana-wa-tu ■T-ramping Gl-ub had offiered to assis.t wi-th the reopening of the Waiopehu Track, and 'w.ould visit •Levin ne-xt week-end -for that purpose. ■ -It was ar-ranged that > one party of -the Levin -Club's membersspend the week-end -with the Manawatu Club, the club captain (Mr. Stannard) to -organise the outing, and another party leave from the post office at 8.15 a.m. on Sunday, with - MIss A. Moxham as leader. Members not at the meet-: ing.'who desire to join the outing should advise the .cfub .captain or secr,etary. The club's monthly puting was arranged for October 13 to Mt.: Tawirikohukohu, leaving the post office at 7.30 a.m. Mr. K. Mackiej was appointed leader. : At the conclusion of the business! supper was dispensed by the lad-' ies. j
