TAKING OF TOHEROAS
Regulations for the toheroa season will come into force 011 thc seventh day after notification in ihe Gazette of the making thereof. In the regulations, unless inconsistent with the conrext, "area" means any area of toheroa beds de--fined or described. "Canning" includes all commercial methods of preserving toheroa for use as human food. "Fisherman's License" means a license or a crew license granted under the Fisheries Amendment Act, 1945, authorising the person to whom it is granted to engage in fishing for purposes of sale. "Maori" means a person beiongiiig tu the aboriginal race of New Zealand, and inciudes a halfcaste and a pei*son intermediate in blood between half-castes and per- ; sons of pure descent from that ' race. "Toheroa License" means a# (fisherman's; .rlieense ... ,containing a,' provision expressly authorising the* person to whom it is granted to take toheroa for purposes of sale. No person shall take, or assist in taking, or have in his possession any toheroa, the sliell of which is less than three ihches in grcatest length. Except as provided in the regulations no person shall take more than thi'*ty toheroa in any one day. Clause I df the regulation shall not apply to a Maori taking toheroa for consumption by Maoris. No person other than a Maori taking toheroa for consumption by Maoris bail take more than twenty ohcroa in any one day in the provincial district of Wellington. No person other than a Maori taking toheroa for consumption bv .Maoris shall in any onc day take more than fifty toheroa. Except as ' provided, 110 Maori taking toheroa .'or consumption by Maoris shall in my one clay take more than eighty i/)hcroas from the beaches of Yucklond, or more than fifty Toheroa from other beachcs in N.Z. No person shall use a fork or k pade. shcvel, or any similar inst.runcnt having a blade of a width •xeecding l'our inches. No person ;hall use an implement made of netol. and no person shall open '.ohoroa below high water mark. No person shall take toheroa for purposes of sale unless he is the holder of a toheroa license, and no person holding a toheroa license •.hall in any one day take, whether for purposes of. sale or otherwise, a quantity of toheroa greater than three bushels or six kerosene tins, measured in tlie shell. Any person committing a breach of the regulations comprised in Part II shall be liable to a fine not exceeding £50. in Part III to a fine not exceeding £20, and in Part IV to a fine oxc^odbi°- £100. / .
