The Commlssioner of Taxes announces that a branch office of the Land and Income Tax Department will be opening on September 30 in the Government Buildings at Palmerston ' North in pursuance of the policy of decentralisation announced by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash. The Palmerston North tax district comprises the Counties of Akitio, Dannevirke, Eketahuna, Horowhenua, Kairanga, Kiwitea, Manawatu. Oroua, Pahiatua, Pohangina, Weber and Woodville. The flies and official records" relating to income tax, social security charge and hational security tax of p'ersons residing in those counties have been transferred from Wellington to Palmerston North, and all returns and correspondence in connection therewith should in future be addressed to the super-intendent, Land and Income Tax Department, Private Bag, Palmerston Noyth. It is important to note, however, that -all matters relating to land tax, and also to taxation of companies, will continue to be dealt with at the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Wellington, and not by the Such of the cahle news In this issue as 4s headed* has appeared in tlic London "Times" and is sent to this paper by special permission.
