REHAB. LOANS FOR HOUSING
SOME HOMESERVICEMEN NOW ' ELIGIBLE ' Extensions to the classes of exservicemen eligible for rehabilitation housing loans were recently Introduced. Those eligible nov include men with four or more years home service, and servicemen who have a total of three years' service, provided their service ineludes either any overseas service and the serviceman was at the uime posted to an overseas unit, 01 at ieast one month's overseas' service, if the serviceman was not at the time posted to an overseas unit. The date on which effective hornr service is regarded as ceasing is taken as March 31, 1946. However, if a serviceman subsequently serves as a member of an overseas occupation force, such as J-Force, or R.N.Z.A.F. in Japan, his effeetive service shall be considered' as having" recommenced from the date of his posting to that force. The date on which effective overseas service is regarded as ceasing is the date of his return to New Zealand. Discharge leave will be credited as home service. However, if servicemen are inmates of a hospital in New Zealand after March 31, 1946. as a result of a disability incurred while serving, their effective service is regarded as ceasing on the date of discharge from hospital or the cessation of service pay, whichever is the earlier. Servicemen who have sefen service after March 31, 1946, which is not effective service as laid out in the foregoing provisions, can have their case reviewed and their eligibility determined by the rehabilitation commiuee.
